Transmission Line Nondestructive Testing

Chaplin: Long Range Ultrasonic Inspection of High Voltage Transmission Lines

Project Funding

European Union 7th Framework Program project

Duration

2013 – 2014

Project Partners

Brunel University, TWI, Innora, Albatroz, DTK Electronics, Dasel

Description

Development of ultrasound-guided wave inspection system hardware and signal processing software for defect detection on high voltage power lines. First to develop an accurate model of the ultrasonic wave propagation in these cables. Dispersion compensation was used to detect defects up to 120 meters along the cable from the transducer array.

Role in Project
